Chapter 7

Jared

The phone’s line went dead after Rose’s scream and the sound of someone grabbing her. His blood ran cold, his breathing speeding up as the situation sunk in. Rose was in trouble.

His fangs elongated, desperate to run as fast as he could to her house and tear into the throat of whoever did this, but he held himself back.

A kidnapping, in the middle of the afternoon in the suburbs on a Sunday? Not only that, but done so quickly and quietly? These were experts and had the Organization written all over it.

But what did they want with Rose? And why did they kidnap her instead of talking to her like any other person involved in the case?

Jared growled. Fucking Organization assholes.

First things first, he called Patricia, just barely restraining himself from breaking his phone as he demanded to know the numbers of the agents stationed in town.

Of course, she refused until he calmed down enough to explain the situation to her. Then she was pissed as well, and invited herself with him to the agents’ makeshift base of operations in town.

The second thing he did was let Daniella know, as Rose mentioned she was supposed to be heading over there. Daniella, also understandably upset, broke all the speed limit laws and made it to Jared’s apartment with tires burning rubber, determined to come with them as well.

Changing into some of his cheap, loose clothes, Jared ran out the door as soon as Patricia texted him that she was there. The pack leader didn’t say anything when she saw Daniella, simply raising an eyebrow before driving them all towards the agents’ base.

The tension was heavy in the air between the three of them as she drove down through town to the hotel that the agents were using on the outskirts of town.

“They can’t just do this- she has already been through so much, we have to teach them a lesson,” Jared snapped when he couldn’t take the silence anymore. Patricia was careful not to tell him their exact location just so he didn’t simply shift and hunt them down himself.

“Oh, believe me, I’m going to be filing enough complaints and paperwork to keep them at their desks for a long time for doing this to a human, but first we have to cool off so no one does anything stupid. Rose is only human, after all,” Patricia reminded Jared.

He crossed his arms and glared out the window, grinding his teeth in anger, knowing the comment was directed at him- and for good reason, too.

Daniella didn’t say anything but her own anger and fear was palatable in the air around them, thanks to her fae genes.

They parked in front of a chain hotel, everyone jumping out of the car and ready to fight. Patricia held them back with a hand, looking over the windows facing them before stopping on one.

“There, that one, it has magical enchantments practically oozing off of it,” She said, pointing up at a window on the fourth floor, one over from the corner window.
